People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, yo will win some false friends and some genuine enemies;
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you;
Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough;
Give the world your best anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.
My after poem commentary: ‘Aint that the truth! Whoever did write this poem really grasped the nature of humanity in and of the world. Here’s an idea: you can take a single line of the poem and make it your mantra for a day or a week. That could be very powerful. I think I’m going to try that. What about you? Does this poem move you? How so? I’d love to hear.
*Note: This poem does not have a known author. It has been credited to about 3 or 4 different people. Since it is not clear it’s basically anonymous.
